Here's the REAL Secret Behind Human Calculator Yaashwin's Maths Skills

When he first applied for the auditions of Asia's Got Talent at Taylor's University, the 15-year-old Yaashwin Sarawanan, who has now become known as the Human Calculator, was laughed at by his friends.

But that didn't stop him from training every day; this was an opportunity he didn't want to miss. When Yaashwin took the stage of Asia's Got Talent, he was slick, smooth and confident; impressing judges with his quirky and vibrant personality. The now-iconic moment when he outsmarted a calculator made him famous not only in Malaysia but in all of Asia. The video has been viewed 14,994,257 times (at the time of the writing).

Why does he call himself a 'Human Calculator'? When asked, Yaashwin admitted it's just a fancy stage name as he sees himself as a performer, not a serious mathematician.

"I was not born with the ability. Some people are gifted, but I trained myself. It's 100% practice that got me here," he said.

Despite denying he's gifted, Yaashwin practices only 5 to 10 minutes of mental arithmatic every day. Some days he doesn't even train.

"You should not force the brain because it needs good rest. This skill uses 100% brain power. Right now, I can calculate 2 to 3 digits but I'm aiming to push my limits to 4 to 5 digits someday," he explained.

Currently studying at SMK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn in Cheras, his interest in maths began at the age of 7 when he started attending classes which used the abacus to teach him maths. Eventually, he found the classes to be ineffective as he completed all the levels. That's when Yaashwin started training on his own.

"I love numbers so much I'll see some sort of connection everywhere. Even if I see car number plates. I can't sleep at night sometimes," Yasshwin admitted.

Whenever he can't answer a maths question, Yasshwin often ends up feeling guilty. "I never get sick of maths. I can get sick only if I can't answer a question. I always see it as a challenge!" he exclaimed.

His biggest challenge now is reaching the finals of Asia's Got Talent Season 3 - you can start voting for him from tomorrow! We got a chance to sit down with him before the Semi-Finals and dig up some of the most interesting and unknown facts about him. Check it out:

We lead children to success!

If you notice that it is difficult for a child to remember new information, to concentrate, not to get confused during a test, or a child needs to be taught to count in the mind - the Japanese method of oral counting (mental arithmetic) will help to achieve these goals. Mental arithmetic can improve the process of perception of information, memorization, storage, concentration and attention.

We invite you to mental training! We will be glad to see you!
